Left cute Sebenik after the cheapest bakery breakfast...4 pastries and two coffees for 8 euros.
Such blue water today along our route!
Rode out of town on a busy road that turned into the highway but the bike route signs guided us onto pretty and quiet beach roads, before they guided us onto a poorly maintained hiking trail that we couldn't have ridden even on our mountain bikes. After pushing for about 1/3 mile we were back up to the highway.
A fast 15 highway miles to a roadside rest stop overlooking some deep blue seas, where we met a French touring couple also on analogue bikes going the other direction. They'd been many places in their lives and we chatted about traffic, friendly bike people, and the weather (which is no small talk when you are stuck in it lugging things uphill!) Chatted for a few minutes before we cruised onwards to a supermarket lunch. This was the second time we made the mistake of getting food and beers from the store, and going to sit at tables outside of the market, only to realize the tables belong to a cafe. The waitress was gracious and brought us iced coffees and waters and didn't seem to mind too much that we were eating our groceries at the table.
Then, onwards to Trogir which has ferry terminal going into Split, to save us the busy highway on a Friday rush hour. (The French couple had mentioned it would be less pleasant, as was the tail end of our ride into Sebenik.) After dropping Lori off, I kept riding 5ish more miles to the next ferry stop on my own. Lori was ready to be done, but I had some energy left and it wasn't roasting hot today and the last 5 miles were lower traffic as I was riding towards the tip of an isthmus that was less and less populous.
Had a beer at the beach bar next to my ferry terminal and watched kids jump off the dock for an hour or so, before the boat Lori was on showed up and grabbed me and the bike to take us into town. Pretty neat to be on a bike and ped only ferry for that last leg, and brought Lori a cold beer from the beach bar which she appreciated a lot.
Pulled up and rode 1/4 mile to meet our apartment host and Miranda gave us quite a run-down of the town and especially the 1700-year-old Roman castle (one wall of our apartment is Roman!) our place is in. Now to explore Split for a few days...
